How can I protect my fruit and vegetables from seagulls without harming them?

You can use Buzzline tape which is a harmless scarer that deters seagulls from roosting on boats, buildings, and crops. It is also safe for other wildlife.

How do I set it up?

To set up Buzzline, it is important to do so before any damage occurs. The line should be stretched tautly, taking care to avoid twisting.

Stakes should be placed in the ground at intervals of about 5 yards (5 meters).
Buzzline should be tied to the end stake and then wound 2 or 3 times around each successive stake.

The line should then be stretched at 2 to 3 feet (.6 to .9 meters) above the crop.
Lines should be repeated at intervals of 20 to 40 feet (6 to 12 meters), varying the angles to ensure that lines run across the direction of the wind.

For tree crops, Buzzline may be set up as ‘wig-wams’ that run 4 lines downwards from a tall stake down to pegs in the ground.

How do I use the Birdscarer tape?

Stretch the buzzline tautly in lengths of about 5 meters and at a height of about 1 meter (3ft) above the ground, taking care to avoid twisting. Repeat the lines at varying angles to ensure that they run across the direction of the wind. The vibration caused by even a gentle breeze will create a noise that birds cannot tolerate, thus keeping them away.
